Can wearing eye liner while sleeping affect the eyes?

Sometimes I don't have time to take off my eye liner before going to bed, since it's hard for it to get off without me cleaning it up with tissue paper by hand. And so if I go to bed with eye liner on, can that affect my eyes or vision in any way, especially since I wear glasses. Can wearing eye liner while sleeping affect the eyes?
Yes it can. Sleeping with eye makeup on gives the chance that bacteria from the makeup that's been on your face all day - especially mascara - will fall into your eye, causing an eye infection. Some types of eye infections can cause blindness.

What I recommend is getting some of the cleanser wipes that don't need water and keep them beside your bed to use before you sleep. They come pre-moistened and are very easy to use with just one swipe. Alternatively, there are cleansers that are made to not use water, and can be wiped off with a cloth after you cleanse; although, it sounds like you don't like to take the time to do that.

Please try to get into the habit of taking your eye makeup off before you sleep. Your eyes - and skin later on - will thank you.Can wearing eye liner while sleeping affect the eyes?
My favorite brands are Olay or Neutrogena. There are quite a few choices, so look to see what they have out there that appeals to you. Don't forget to find a nice eye moisturizer to pat gently on, after you remove the makeup. :) Report Abuse

It's not likely, but you can develop an infection in your eye. It's always best to remove eye makeup before bed, as the eyes have a special pH balance and makeup can throw that off and cause infections, especially if you have vision problems.
